An explosion in Oyo State has caused extensive damage to several government buildings, leaving shattered glass, collapsed ceilings, and scattered debris in its wake. The Office of the Governor, including the Governor’s media office, suffered significant losses, with windows blown out and equipment destroyed in the blast.
The Water Cooperation Building, which houses several ministries, also suffered extensive damage. The State Secretariat Central Mosque, Secretariat Chapel, and Revenue House were not spared, with windows and doors blown out and walls cracked. The newly built Local Government Service House and the Staff Training School also suffered significant losses.
The explosion caused panic and fear among workers and visitors to the State Secretariat, with many fleeing for safety. The Oyo State Government has condemned the explosion and promised to investigate the incident. Governor Seyi Makinde, who visited the affected buildings, expressed shock and dismay at the extent of the damage. He assured that the government would do everything possible to restore the affected offices and provide support to those affected by the explosion.
Security agencies have launched an investigation into the explosion, with the police and other relevant authorities working to determine the cause of the blast. As at the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, and the motive behind the attack remains unknown.
The Oyo State Government has called for calm and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The Governor’s Office has also promised to provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
