political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, has revealed that the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have agreed to form a mega party. The purpose of this coalition is to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
This announcement was made by Professor Pat Utomi during an interview on Channels TV on Sunday night. When asked if the mentioned politicians have agreed to come together, Utomi simply responded with a “yes”. However, no specific party name has been decided yet. Utomi emphasized that apart from these politicians, leaders of social movements and the labor movement are also involved in this mega party formation.
Utomi went on to explain the need for a fresh start in Nigerian politics. He stated that a new tribe of Nigerians, who are committed to values such as integrity and anti-corruption, has emerged. According to Utomi, this coalition aims to create a set of values that can lead to progress in the country.
The renowned political economist further criticized the current state of Nigerian politics. He argued that since 1999, Nigeria has lacked a true political party and has instead witnessed the rise of platforms focused on acquiring power without adequately addressing the needs of the Nigerian people. Utomi challenged listeners to assess the quality of life improvements experienced by Nigerians since 1999, pointing out the alarming levels of poverty and widespread violence in the country.
The formation of this mega party signifies a significant political development. With prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, Kwankwaso, and Obi joining forces, the coalition is likely to present a formidable challenge to the ruling APC in the 2027 presidential election. As details continue to emerge, Nigerians eagerly await further information on the name and broader objectives of this new political force.
