Justice Inyang Ekwo Grants Alleged Terrorist Negotiator Tukur Mamu Access to Personal Physician

In a recent development, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled in favor of Tukur Mamu, the alleged terrorist negotiator, granting him access to his personal physician due to his alleged deteriorating health condition.

During the hearing, Mamu’s counsel, Johnson Usman, presented arguments supporting the defendant’s plea for medical assistance. Justice Ekwo subsequently ordered that Mamu’s medical doctor should be permitted to provide treatment, under the supervision of the Department of State Service’s team of physicians.

Responding to the defense, the Federal Government’s lawyer, David Kaswe, affirmed that Mamu is indeed entitled to his own personal physician.

As a result of this ruling, the trial for Mamu has been adjourned to February 26 to 28, 2024, allowing for the continuation of proceedings.

Tukur Mamu stands accused of having connections with terrorists involved in the 2022 Kaduna-bound train attack. He was apprehended by Interpol on September 6, 2022, in Cairo, Egypt, acting on behalf of the Nigerian Government.

This decision by Justice Ekwo highlights the court’s commitment to ensuring that the defendant’s right to medical care is respected while also ensuring that the legal proceedings can proceed fairly and justly. The case will continue to evolve as new developments arise, shedding further light on the alleged terrorist activities and Mamu’s involvement.
