Popular Legal luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) has said over 70 per cent of the citizens were living below the poverty level, a staggering majority.
The lawyer who spoke in Ikere Ekiti, his country home pointed out that there was tension, unrest, anxiety, pressure, confusion, hatred, anguish, pain, distress and transferred aggression among many people.
Olanipekun posited that the situation in Nigeria is much more challenging, especially with the burden of insecurity that it had faced for over a decade.
In his words:
“The poverty level in Nigeria today is not just scary but also terrifying, as over 70 per cent of Nigerians are rudderless and poverty stricken,” he said.
Chief Wole Olanipekun was incidentally one of the lead counsel who defended President Tinubu at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) and at the Supreme Court in the litigation that arose from his victory at the February Presidential polls.
