NAFDAC Warns Public of ‘GFuel’ Energy Drink Recall Due to High Caffeine Levels

In a recent public announcement, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the Nigerian populace about the recall of the popular energy drink brand, ‘GFuel’. This recall comes as a result of alarming levels of caffeine found in the aforementioned product by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The recall, initiated by T&E Imports and GPAE Trading Corp, aims to protect consumers from potential health risks associated with the consumption of high levels of caffeine. NAFDAC, an agency responsible for ensuring food and drug safety in Nigeria, has acted swiftly to disseminate this vital information to the Nigerian public.

Concerns arise as excessive caffeine consumption can lead to various health issues. According to a statement released by NAFDAC on Tuesday, ingesting high levels of caffeine-containing products can result in unpleasant symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, irritability, and nervousness. These side effects can be particularly worrisome for individuals who may already suffer from pre-existing medical conditions or are sensitive to caffeine intake.

To safeguard public health, NAFDAC is urging individuals who have purchased ‘GFuel’ energy drinks to immediately cease consumption and return the product to the retailer or distributor. Additionally, the agency advises retail outlets, supermarkets, and distributors to remove all stocks of the ‘GFuel’ energy drink from their shelves and warehouses.

Furthermore, NAFDAC is working closely with NVWA and CFIA to ensure proper investigation into this matter, including identifying the reasons behind the alarming presence of high caffeine levels in the ‘GFuel’ energy drink. The agencies involved have pledged to take necessary actions to prevent the entry and distribution of unsafe food products into their respective countries.

In conclusion, NAFDAC is actively prioritizing the health and safety of Nigerian consumers by notifying them about the recall of ‘GFuel’ energy drink due to its dangerously high caffeine levels. The agency urges the public to remain vigilant, adhere to the recall notice, and report any adverse effects experienced from consuming this product. NAFDAC remains committed to ensuring that only safe and quality food and drugs are available to the Nigerian population.

The aforementioned recall specifically applies to the ‘GFuel’ brand of energy drink distributed by T&E Imports and GPAE Trading Corp. It is important to verify the source and brand of any energy drink before making any conclusions or taking necessary actions.
