Lukman Soladoye, on Tuesday, November 21, while appearing before a Shari’a court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna said he beat his wife, Kemi Soladoye and their four children to correct them when they do something wrong.
Lukman Soladoye told the court that he loves his family and wants the best for them.
Lukman’s wife through her counsel, B.A Tanko had sought for a divorce due to Lukman’s incessant assault against her but later changed her mind and settled with her husband.
But she prayed the court to caution her husband to stop physically abusing her and their children.
The judge, Isiyaku Abdulrahman, asked Lukman defendant if he would promise to stop beating his wife and children but he said he would stop beating the wife not children.
“If your wife does anything wrong to you, talk to her about it and show your displeasure; you are not supposed to beat your wife,” the judge advised.
“As for your children, beating is not the only way to correct a child; always show love and affection to your children, pray for them and advise them.”
The judge said Lukman’s behaviour will be monitored even as he asked the wife to report to the court if he assaults her again.
