A 30-year old Nigerian man based in Cherry Street Sheffield, Abiola Tijani has been jailed for 12 years and three months after he admitted raping a stranger.
The Sheffield Crown Court heard that Abiola in the early hours of July 29 followed the victim before he pushed her against some railings and raped her.
Judge Rachael Harrison in her ruling said the attack was “every woman’s worst nightmare” and gave him a lifetime restraining order to prevent him contacting the victim.
In the words of Judge Harrison :
“No sentence I pass will undo the harm you caused or be considered adequate.”
PC Sarah Frith, from South Yorkshire Police, praised the victim for her “great bravery” and “the strength of character she has shown” in helping the prosecution case.
