Tragedy struck in Akerebiata, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State as a seven-year-old boy, identified as Abdul-Hayi, lost his life after he slipped inside a domestic well.
Abdul-Hayi from Yaa-Lateef compound, Tinu street in Akerebiata, according to reports fell into the well after one of his legs suddenly slipped while he was fetching water around 5:30 pm on Monday.
The Kwara State Fire Service, Head of Department, Media and Publicity, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, while confirming the incident on Tuesday, said the firemen were alerted through a phone call by one Mr Idowu, a resident of the community.
He said the firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Mr Yussuf, a family member of the deceased.
Hassan said the State Director of Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident.
“He urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities. Olumuyiwa also charged them to desist from sending underaged children to fetch water in a domestic well,” he added.
