Court of Appeal Upholds MP Matthew Nwogu’s Victory in Imo State Federal Constituency

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has affirmed the victory of Hon. Matthew Nwogu, the member representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala federal constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives. The ruling comes after the appeal made by Akwitti Chibuzor, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging Nwogu’s victory at the Imo State National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal.

The three-man panel of Justices, led by Hon. Justice Gumel, dismissed the appeal, stating that it lacked merit. In response to the judgement, Hon. Nwogu expressed his elation and praised the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.

Hon. Nwogu extended an olive branch to the aggrieved candidates, urging them to join hands with him and work together for the betterment of Aboh Mbaise nation. He emphasized the importance of providing effective representation for the people and ensuring they enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Since his election, Hon. Nwogu has already made progress in the National Assembly, moving seven Bills on the floor that have gone through first readings. He has also raised motions, including one that addresses the extortion and inhuman treatment of travelers in the South-East by security agencies and the police.

Hon. Nwogu thanked his family for their support during the challenging times and expressed gratitude to the constituents who entrusted him with their mandate. He promised to prioritize the needs of the youth, elderly, and disadvantaged members of his constituency, and to be their voice in the House of Representatives.

The MP also thanked the Speaker and the deputy speaker for their committee allocations, assuring them that he would work effectively for the betterment of the National Assembly and the House of Representatives.

Hon. Nwogu concluded by urging the development of democracy and extending his hand of friendship to constituents from all parties, emphasizing the importance of working together for the progress of Aboh Mbaise.
