The incident, which took place at 10:30 pm on Saturday and lasted until early Sunday, resulted in rig operators and some residents scrambling for safety.
Following the incident, the government has launched an investigation into the matter, taking into account the existing environmental laws and environmental impact assessments. The State Fire Service’s swift intervention prevented any potential loss of lives and damage to properties. However, the incident has raised concerns about the safety implications associated with unauthorized activities in the region.
The gas eruptions during the incident have further validated Governor Peter Mbah’s previous statement regarding the abundant solid and liquid mineral resources present in Enugu State.
