Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa to Deploy NDLEA Personnel in All Local Government Areas by 2024, Strengthening Fight against Substance Abuse

In a recent announcement, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), unveiled plans to station NDLEA personnel in all 774 local government areas across the country by 2024. This far-reaching initiative aims to intensify efforts against the rampant issue of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, with a specific focus on local communities.

Brig. Gen. Marwa commended the dedication exhibited by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda in addressing challenges within Katsina State and fostering socio-economic development. Recognizing the severe consequences of the drug menace, he proposed the establishment of a state drug control committee, where the NDLEA would act as the secretary, and the state’s First Lady would serve as the chairperson. This collaborative effort would further strategize and enhance the fight against drug-related activities.

Speaking at the announcement, Governor Radda stressed the necessity for robust cooperation in curbing the movement of drugs, apprehending and prosecuting dealers, and enhancing the security and economic prospects of the state. The Governor expressed his support for the NDLEA’s plan to deploy personnel in every local government, acknowledging that it would play a pivotal role in combating substance abuse and safeguarding communities.

The decision to station NDLEA personnel in all 774 local government areas signifies a significant step forward in Nigeria’s battle against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking. By placing a stronger NDLEA presence at the grassroots level, the initiative aims to not only disrupt drug supply chains but also raise awareness and provide assistance to individuals struggling with addiction.

Brig. Gen. Marwa’s proposal for a state drug control committee reflects the importance of collaboration at all levels of governance. By involving key stakeholders, particularly the First Lady, in leading this committee, the initiative seeks to mobilize resources and expertise towards a comprehensive approach to drug control, encompassing prevention, treatment, and law enforcement.

With the support and active participation of local communities, government bodies, and law enforcement agencies, the deployment of NDLEA personnel in every local government area is poised to bring about a significant reduction in drug-related incidents and provide a safer environment for citizens.
