President Bola Tinubu has announced the approval of N18 billion for the payment of Group Life Assurance benefits and other entitlements to the families of fallen service men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces. This announcement was made during the launch of the Emblem Appeal for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja.
Expressing his appreciation for the sacrifices made by the men and women of the armed forces, President Tinubu emphasized the government’s commitment to their welfare. He stated, “We owe a debt of gratitude to our gallant troops, who have risen to the challenge of securing this great nation.”
President Tinubu further highlighted the government’s dedication to repositioning the armed forces for improved service delivery. He acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by the armed forces in preserving the nation’s unity, stating, “It has therefore fallen on us as a people to honor the memory of the valiant officers, men, and women who have paid the supreme sacrifice and to provide a decent and humane standard of care for all who have served our dear nation.”
The President emphasized the symbolic importance of the 15th day of January, as it marks the end of the Nigerian Civil War. He stated that this occasion serves as a reminder of the price paid for the continued unity of the country.
In support of the President’s sentiments, the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, reiterated the administration’s efforts to restore peace, order, and security in the country. He expressed deep concern for the loss of many members of the armed forces and the injuries sustained by the survivors while defending the homeland.
During the event, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation were also present, showing their solidarity with the President’s commitment to honoring fallen service men and women.
