Appeal Court Voids Tribunal Judgement, Declares APC Rep Kashuri Winner Of Bauchi Constituency

The February 25 victory of Bala Rabilu Kashuri, an All Progressives Congress APC House of Representatives member, representing Jama’are/Itas Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State has been affirmed by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja.

Kashuri, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the contested February 25 polls defeating his closest rival, Haruna Mohammed Jungudo of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.

Haruna Mohammed Jungudo and the PDP approached the tribunal alleging that Kashuri had submitted a forged Diploma Certificate from the defunct College of College of Administrative Studies, now Abubakar Tatari Polytechnic in Bauchi.

The Registrar of the institution had in a March letter stated he didn’t attend the Institution, but later recanted in an April 17 letter, stating that Kashuri indeed attended the school from 2000-2002.

On July 27, the tribunal sitting in Bauchi sacked Kashuri for forging his certificate, and returned the PDP Candidate as winner.

The decision has now been reversed by the Appeal Court.
