Abia State Accountant-General Locked Out Of Office By Civil Servants Over Alleged Non-Payment Of Salaries

The Abia State Accountant General in the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Njum Onyemenam, was on Tuesday locked out of her office by some Civil Servants in the state over the non-payment of their salaries.

A witness while aharing a video of the closure of gates, had told newsmen that “all entrances leading to the Accountant-General’s office have been locked by the workers.”

It would be recalled that hundreds of Abia civil servants had over a month ago picketed the Accountant General’s office over the failure of the Governor Alex Otti-led state government’s to pay their salaries over claims that they were ghost workers.

The Abia State Government had in a statement by the commissioner for information, revealed that it had discovered over 2,300 ghost workers in the government’s payroll and had saved over N600 million by stopping payment of their salaries.

The workers are of the opinion that the millions of Naira Governor Otti’s government claimed it has saved is indeed the sweat of the state workers who have now been subjected to hunger by the state government.
