A young female teenager identified as Desola Adeoye on Tuesday, August 22, killed herselfin Shogunle community, Lagos.
The 14-year old girl was reported to have suffered untold violence from her father, Sunday Adeoye, and his wife, prompting her to drink insecticide as a way escape torture.
According to reports, she ended it all after her step-mother allegedly threatened her with torture when she got home from her summer school. She was said to have told her that when her father returns, he would beat her.
The young girl who was apparently worried by the threat, was reported to have sneaked out of the house to drink the insecticide kept in the house.
She was rushed to a nearby private hospital where she gave up the ghost.
It was alleged that her father, after retrieving her lifeless body from the hospital, took it back home to bury her secretly but was stopped by police operatives from Shogunle Divisional Police station, who were alerted by neighbours.
A neighbour who spoke to Vanguard revealed how Desola and her siblings has been subjected to torture by their Dad and stepmum.
“The late Desola and her two younger sisters were regularly subjected to domestic violence by their biological father and stepmother every time they made mistake.
“Shogunle Community Development Association in Oshodi, CDA, had, on numerous occasions, cautioned their father and stepmother to stop the physical abuse unleashed on their children especially late Desola Adeoye.”
The COO of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, Mr. Ebenezer Omejalile, in his reaction to the incident, called on Lagos State government, the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Bar Association to rescue the remaining two children still under the care of the couple, while also getting justice for the late Desola.
