Barcelona have cancelled their friendly game against Juventus over a stomach bug affecting several players in the squad.
The club made this known in a statement on their official website on Saturday.
According to a Spanish website, Barca Universal, the club was scheduled to face Juventus in their first pre-season friendly in the United States of America later tonight at Levi’s Stadium in California.
“FC Barcelona hereby informs that the game against Juventus FC, scheduled for today, July 22 at 7:30 PM at Levi’s Stadium, as part of the Soccer Champions Tour, has been cancelled.
“A significant part of the Blaugrana squad has viral gastroenteritis,” the statement from the club read.
Training had been going on over the past couple of days in the US and all seemed set for the match to take place in a few hours.
However, it appears that several players within the squad have been hit by a stomach bug which has prompted the La Liga champions to cancel the friendly encounter against the Bianconeri.
It must be remembered that Jules Kounde had been affected by the stomach bug on the first day of training in the US which led to him missing the sessions on that day.
It is unclear as to who all in the squad and how many players in total are suffering from the problem. But, Toni Juanmarti is reporting that there may be around 8-9 stars who are down with the bug.
The Catalans will next take the field to take on Arsenal on Wednesday at the SoFi Stadium and hopefully, everything will be okay with the players by then.
