The Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday, arraigned 27-year-old Ahmed Iliasu before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ajah for allegedly extorting money from motorists and threatening to unleash mayhem
Iliasu is facing three counts of conspiracy, extortion, attempt to extort, threatening to unleash mayhem and breach of peace preferred against him.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Chinedu Njoku, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 14, 2023.
He said the incident took place around 4am at Peace Land Estate Majek, the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
Njoku told the court that the defendant, along with his accomplices, conspired and blocked the expressway in other to extort motorists and threatened to unleash mayhem if there was no compliance.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed contravened Sections 411, 303 (a) and (b) and Section 168(d) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. M. Daramola, who presided over the case granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till July 24, 2023, for mention.
