Gunmen on Saturday attacked two communities in the Mangu local government area of Plateau state and killed two persons
The affected communities were Teng and Pwaskop.
It was gathered that during the attack which lasted for several hours, the assailants also burnt several houses belonging to the natives.
A resident of the Teng community, Mrs. Jeneth Bulus who confirmed the attack to The PUNCH in Jos on Sunday said that the victims were killed while trying to escape.
Bulus said; “Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia attacked Teng and Pwaskop communities in Pushit District of Mangu local government in the early hour of Saturday 01/07/2023.
“The terrorists came firing several gunshots while the villagers ran for their lives. Unfortunately, two persons who are brothers to Aaron Gumir, a former General Manager of Plateau Riders, were killed during the attacks.
“The gunmen also burnt several houses in the two villages before they escaped into the bush.
Bulus who decried the high level of insecurity in Mangu communities and the neighboring local government areas called on the government and the security agents to redouble their efforts and save the people.
“What is happening in Mangu communities is simply unacceptable. It’s like no day passes without news of one form of attack in one or two communities by gunmen. As the people are being killed, their houses are also set ablaze by the gunmen. What does the government want the people to do in the present situation? Every time, we hear that security operatives have been deployed to the villages and yet, these killings and attacks have continued. Why can’t the security agents go after those responsible for these endless killings and allow the people to stay in peace”, Bulus queried.
The spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred did not pick up his calls when contacted on the incident.
