Victim of serial blackmailer alleges threat to life

A victim of a man who allegedly specialises in recording sexual intercourse with ladies and selling their nudes has alleged a threat to her life.

Metro had on April 23 reported how the man identified simply as Bendega was accused of using his mobile phone, laptop and camera to snap pictures and record videos of him and his female lovers engaging in sexual intercourse without their consent.

Bendega, after perpetrating the crime, was also accused of selling his lovers’ nude videos and pictures and blackmailing them into silence whenever they got to know about his illicit action.

While most of Bendega’s ex-lovers were afraid to speak up on the issue due to stigmatisation, some of the victims shared audio conversations and screenshots of the chats when Bendega threatened them on WhatsApp with our correspondent.

One of the victims, who gave her name only as Mokogwu, while demanding justice, said she decided to speak on the matter to prevent other unsuspecting ladies from becoming victims.

But after speaking out on the matter, Mokogwu told PUNCH Metro that there had been threats to her life.

She is therefore demanding help from relevant authorities.

Mokogwu, who reported the case to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency in April, said her life had not been the same after going public with the story.

It is, however, not sure whether the threats are related to the matter.

Metro further learnt that several attempts to arrest Bandega for questioning had yet to yield any result.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, Mokogwu told our correspondent that she had abandoned nearly all her social media handles as a result of constant threats following her effort to bring the suspect to justice, noting that the recent vague message she received from an unknown source further aggravated her fear.

Mokogwu said, “I have felt threatened since I went public with the story and I had been getting threats in my Twitter direct messages, which was why I have closed my messages and left my main page since. The message to my email is just a reminder.

“I reported this particular threat to the Lagos DSVA because it is almost like sending me a text message as my email address is not public. It was pretty vague and from a burner mail.”

While demanding justice as well as protection, she said she did not know her life would be threatened after she had chosen to speak out on the matter to prevent other unsuspecting ladies from becoming victims.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, LDSVA, Mrs Joke Ladenegan-Oginni, said the suspect had been on the run.

“The perpetrator is still on the run,” Ladenegan-Oginni simply told our correspondent on Tuesday
