Grandma demands justice for defiled Lagos pupil, NGO plans protest

Bisi Oluwatayo, the grandmother of a four-year-old pupil of Greater Scholars International School, Ajah, Lagos State, who was reportedly defiled by the school’s security guard recently, has demanded justice for her grandchild.

Her grandchild was allegedly defiled by the school guard, identified as David, under the guise of cleaning her up.

Oluwatayo, in a message posted on her Facebook wall, said the family had been traumatized by the event and needed justice.

She wrote, “With sadness and grief in our hearts, we write to report that our precious four-year-old granddaughter was sexually molested and physically abused by some staff (members) of her nursery school (Greater Scholars Staff School) at Abraham Adesanya Estate, Lekki Ajah, Lagos State, on Thursday, April 27, 2023.”

She questioned why such was allowed to happen in a school environment and expressed displeasure over the alleged negligence of the school in taking prompt action.

“What business does the security guard have bringing children into and out of class? Where there are the teachers and assistants in the school? Why is he involved in changing clothes and getting their underwear? What level of negligence is that?” she queried.

Meanwhile, members of a non-governmental organization, Concerned Parents and Educators Network, have concluded plans to protest in front of the school gate on Thursday (today).

The parents of the pupil, Mr, and Mrs. Olusola, had earlier told our correspondent that several requests to the school to inquire about the incident were met with threats.

The parents said the situation had made their usually lively daughter be withdrawn and moody.

“We had to book a child psychologist for her. As parents, we sent our daughter to school; we didn’t think we were handing her over to abusers and molesters. It has been a painful experience. We are just hoping we get justice for her because the way the school has gone about it, they have shown zero care about the children,” they added.

THE  had earlier quoted the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, as saying that the suspect was in custody and a medical test had been conducted on the pupil.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Agency also stated that the pupil had been referred for medical and psychosocial support.

When our correspondent called the telephone number listed on the school’s Instagram page, a man who refused to identify himself, simply said, “The case is with the police. The security agencies are on the matter.”
