Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 10 suspected kidnappers just as it also foiled a syndicate of tricycle robbers.
The operatives recovered from the suspected kidnappers a Toyota Corolla with number plate WWR 353 LS, a locally made cut-to-size single barrel pistol as well as 11 rounds of live cartridges.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects were arrested following the deployment of operatives attached to the command’s CP-Decoy Squad to the Sapele-Warri Road and its environs said to be notorious for the activities of kidnappers and robbers.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, on the assumption of duty, was said to have ordered the squad to pay attention to the axis.
The squad’s commander, ASP Julius Robinson, then led operatives to relocate to Sapele on a covert operation and while acting on intelligence gathered, arrested one Nyero Sunday (29), of Okwitolo community alongside eight others all in the Okpe Local Government Area of the state.
All the suspects were said to have confessed their involvement in the numerous kidnapping and armed robbery operations recorded on the road.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, noted that further investigation also led to the arrest of one Umar Bello (33) from Sokoto State but residing in Warri, who usually buys stolen phones and other valuables from the suspects.
The PPRO said, “Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.”
Meanwhile, the command has also arrested a suspect said to belong to an armed robbery syndicate who uses tricycles to rob innocent people along Airport Road, Warri.
The suspect, Nworie Emmanuel (20), was arrested on May 15, 2023,
The command, also on May 16, 2023, raided a criminal black spot located around Osuani in the Patani Local Government Area and arrested one Priscilla Amor (35), and recovered from her 26 wraps of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, 19 wraps of substance suspected to be Methamphetamine, some mobile phones and other exhibits.
