Lagos: Naked man found dead inside car

Residents and passers-by around Isheri, Olowora Road, Ojodu Berger in Lagos woke up on Thursday to behold a strange scene in the neighbourhood.

The corpse of a yet-to-be-identified man was said to have been found in a car in the neighbourhood.

An eyewitness, who spoke with PUNCH Metro on the condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, said the man was found naked in a black Toyota car.

As of the time of the discovery, his corpse was said to be lying across the front seats of the car with his head on the driver’s seat and leg stretched across the passenger’s seat.

Eyewitnesses said the man was not known to be a resident of the area.

PUNCH Metro further gathered that no mark of violence was found on the man.

Another resident, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, however, said although the deceased was not a resident, some hawkers said he was a known face in the area.

The resident said, “We woke up to see his body lying naked in the car. There was no sign of violence on his body.

“No one can say what was responsible for his death. The best people can do is to speculate.

“He was found lying across his car’s front seat with his head on the driver’s seat while his leg is on the passenger’s seat. One of the hawkers in the area said he was a regular face in the area. The man was completely naked. His shirt and trousers were found on the floor of the car.”

PUNCH Metro gathered that policemen from the Isheri Divisional Headquarters visited the scene and evacuated the corpse while they also removed the car.

When our correspondent visited the police station, it was learnt that the corpse had been deposited at the morgue of a general hospital in the area.

A police officer at the station urged our correspondent to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Hundeyin, for further information.

“We are aware of the incident. We have taken the body to the General Hospital. You can contact the PPRO for more details,” the police officer said.

However, several calls made to Hundeyin’s mobile phone rang out on Thursday.

Also, messages sent to him were yet to be responded to as of the time this report was filed.
