The Osun State Police Command has warned residents of the state against the spread of fake news and provocative content on social media with the intent to cause apprehension in the state during Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
The warning was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola obtained in Osogbo, on Wednesday.
While commending the electorate for their peaceful conduct during the last presidential and National Assembly elections, it said the conduct was an indication that Osun residents were peace-loving.
The statement read in part, “The police command warns against spreading of fake news and provocative content on social media with the intent to cause apprehension/panic in the state.”
“In the same vein, the command is using the same medium to reiterate that restriction of Vehicular/Motorcycle movement will be enforced. There will be no such movements from 12 am to 6 pm on Election Day, except for those on essential services.”
The command appealed to parents to monitor their wards and prevent them from getting involved in criminal acts, or making themselves available as political thugs to disrupt the election process.
“Be more orderly in this coming House of Assembly election. We assure the general public of adequate security before, during and beyond the election,” it added.
