KANO Hisbah operatives over the weekend swooped on a popular event centre, the alleged venue for same-sex marriage, and apprehended no fewer than 19 suspects.
The Commander General of Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Dr Harun Muhammad Sani Ibn Sina, told reporters that the youths in their early twenties had gathered to witness the wedding of two suspected homosexuals, Abba and Mujahid, who are still at large.
Sani Ibn Sina revealed that the event’s organizer, Salma Usman, 21, has been taken into Hisbah custody for further questioning.
He revealed that the board has similarly broadened its net in order to apprehend the evading suspected “couple,” Abba and Mujahid.
The Hisbah Commandaner General stated that its operatives arrived at the scene before the wedding rites began, acting on a tip-off from a good samaritan, and arrested 15 females and 4 males.
He revealed that the “bride and groom,” Abba and Mujahid, fled immediately after Hisbah personnel arrived at the wedding venue.
He also stated that the Kano State Hisbah board would turn over those in their custody to the police for appropriate action, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to eradicating all forms of vices alien to “our culture and religious persuasion” in the state.
Some of the suspects who spoke to reporters claimed to have been invited to a birthday celebration.
