The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday announced that heavy duty trucks and trailers would not be allowed to ply the second Niger Bridge within the one month period it would be opened to traffic.
In traffic advisory issued on Friday, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Adeoye Irelewuyi, said the directive followed announcement of temporary opening of the bridge from December 15, 2022 to January 15, 2023 by the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola.
He said the bridge would be opened only to motorists and other road users coming from the West to the East through Asaba from December 15 through January 1, 2023, while only vehicles coming from the East to the West would be allowed to ply the bridge from January 2 to 15, 2023.
Sequel to the announcement of the temporary opening of the second Niger Bridge from 15th December 2022 to 15th January 2023 by the Hon Minister of Works and Housing, HE Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps; Anambra State Command; Corps Commander Adeoye A Irelewuyt wishes to notify the motoring public that from 15th December, 2022 to 1st January, 2023, the new bridge will be open only to Motorist and other road users coming from the West to the East through Asaba. However, from 2nd January 2023 to 15th January 2023, only vehicles coming from the East to the West will be allowed to use the new bridge.
“Members of the public are also informed that Heavy duty Trucks and Trailers will not be allowed to use the new Bridge during this period,” the advisory notice reads in part.
