LAOSUGUTAN A. B. Taiwo, Spiritual Head of Faith Revivalist Christian Church, has stated that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) cannot tell Nigerians who to vote for in the 2023 general election and that Nigerians should vote with their conscience.
Former Ogun State Commissioner of Finance, Samuel Durojaiye, shared similar sentiments. They spoke at the Faith Revivalist Christian Church’s 60th anniversary celebration in Lagos State. Durojaiye, the head of the anniversary planning committee, stated that the church has little influence over how people vote.
He noted: “Most people say politicians are liars but are the people ready to hear the truth? Awolowo said he was going to probe the military. For that, he was marked by marksmen. Everybody come to tell the people what they want. It is in the church too. Most people want to go to church that accepts them rather than a church that preaches repentance. The same thing the politicians do; they know that the people want money and the moment they provide the money they have bought the post,” he stated.
Pastor Taiwo said the people should be allowed to make their choice without biases. “We are part of CAN but we don’t totally follow them. CAN has said it does not endorse same faith ticket but we pray that the best person to win. We tell our people to vote for a person of their choice,” he said.
