The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), has commended Nigerian Army personnel serving under Operation ATILEYIN ALAFIA II (OPAA II) in the Republic of Benin for their outstanding professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment to promoting regional peace and security.
General Musa gave the commendation during a morale-boosting visit to the Nigerian contingent stationed at Camp Togbin in Cotonou. Accompanied by senior defence officials, the minister praised the troops for projecting a positive image of Nigeria throughout their peace support mission.
Addressing the soldiers, the Defence Minister described their conduct as a clear reflection of the discipline, resilience, and professionalism for which the Nigerian Armed Forces are widely recognized. He lauded their dedication to duty and urged them to continue upholding the highest standards of military excellence.
General Musa also conveyed the goodwill message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, stating that the President was highly impressed by the contingent’s exceptional performance and appreciated their sacrifices in advancing peace and strengthening diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
“The President is particularly pleased with the troops’ exceptional performance and extends his warm greetings and appreciation to them for their sacrifices in promoting peace and strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin,” the Defence Minister said.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to regional security, General Musa stressed that the country would continue to deepen defence cooperation with the Republic of Benin. He noted that sustained collaboration between both nations’ armed forces remains vital in tackling cross-border criminal activities and enhancing border security.
According to him, stronger military partnerships are essential to maintaining lasting peace, stability, and security across the West African sub-region, particularly in the face of evolving transnational security threats.
The minister also wished the troops a safe return to Nigeria upon the successful completion of their mission, expressing gratitude for their selfless service to the nation and the region. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in upholding the core values of the Nigerian Army wherever they are deployed.
General Musa emphasized that the troops’ dedication, discipline, and professionalism continue to enhance Nigeria’s international reputation while making significant contributions to regional security and peaceful relations with neighbouring countries.
