Minister of Works David Umahi has dismissed claims that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, is facing threats to his life.
Speaking while inspecting federal legacy projects in Ebonyi State, Umahi rejected Obi’s assertion that political opponents want him dead, describing the claim as a product of frustration.
According to the minister, Obi is unsettled by what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s growing acceptance in the South-East.
“Nobody wants Obi dead; it’s not reasonable. We all want him alive to contest the election and watch himself lose again,” Umahi said.
He added that Obi’s belief that the South-East remains his political stronghold was based on what he called “an accident of history” during the last election.
Umahi argued that the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure projects in the region have changed public perception, saying many people in the South-East now support the president to continue what he described as visible development rather than engage in “artificial intelligence kind of politics.”
The minister also restated his willingness to publicly debate Obi on the achievements of the Tinubu administration and why, in his view, the South-East should appreciate its inclusion in national governance.
