Obi, Kwankwaso Meet in Abuja Amid Fallout from Dickson’s Arise TV Interview

Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on Tuesday met with his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the latter’s residence in Abuja, in what observers see as a move to reinforce unity within the party following recent controversy surrounding comments made by NDC leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, during an interview on Arise TV.
The meeting came days after Dickson’s television appearance generated widespread reactions over his remarks on party strategy and alliance discussions, prompting speculation about possible divisions within the opposition party.
In a statement released after the meeting, Kwankwaso said he was pleased to host Obi following the presidential candidate’s return from an international trip.
“Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting my brother and partner, His Excellency Peter Obi, at my residence in Abuja. I warmly welcomed him back from his highly productive international trip, and we engaged in frank and productive discussions on key partisan and national issues,” Kwankwaso stated.
He stressed that the NDC remains united despite differing opinions among its members.
“Our party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), remains strongly united. As leaders, we must continue to demonstrate maturity by making the necessary sacrifices and tolerating our differences in pursuit of our shared goal,” he said.
Kwankwaso further expressed confidence in the party’s mission and future prospects, declaring: “We are resolute in this mission, and together, we shall ensure that Nigeria is OK.”
Although details of the discussions between Obi and Kwankwaso were not disclosed, political observers believe the meeting was aimed at projecting cohesion within the NDC ticket and reassuring supporters amid the fallout from Dickson’s comments.
Party officials have yet to issue further statements clarifying the issues raised during Dickson’s interview or providing additional details on the outcome of the Obi-Kwankwaso meeting.
The development comes as political parties continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the NDC seeking to maintain a united front amid ongoing discussions about alliances and opposition strategies.
