Dr. Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, Executive Director of Finance at the Hadejia–Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, has expressed confidence that the concentration of development projects in northern Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will guarantee the president strong electoral support and eventual re-election in the 2027 general election.
Kwankwaso made the assertion in a statement issued on Saturday, where he highlighted several ongoing infrastructure, agricultural, healthcare and economic projects being implemented under the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
According to him, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has prioritised the North-West and North-East regions through projects aimed at enhancing regional trade, agriculture, transportation and connectivity.
He said the scale of investments in Kano and the wider northern region demonstrates the administration’s commitment to addressing developmental challenges and stimulating economic growth.
Among the major projects cited by Kwankwaso is the Kano–Kongolom Road project, a 132-kilometre dualisation and construction initiative valued at N334 billion, designed to connect Kano with Jigawa and Katsina states.
He also referenced the ongoing reconstruction of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway, which is being executed using reinforced concrete pavement technology and supported by enhanced security measures.
Kwankwaso further pointed to the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, a 1,068-kilometre six-lane economic corridor with an integrated rail component, describing it as a major indicator of the federal government’s commitment to northern development.
According to him, the 37.8-kilometre Kano Eastern Bypass, intended to divert heavy industrial traffic away from the Kano metropolis, is progressing steadily and nearing completion.
The executive director also highlighted the Kano–Maradi Rail Line project, a 284-kilometre railway expected to connect Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states while extending economic links toward the Republic of Niger.
On energy infrastructure, he noted that the 614-kilometre Ajaokuta–Abuja–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline project is expected to boost domestic gas supply, industrialisation and power generation across northern Nigeria.
Kwankwaso said the federal government has equally approved the Jakara–Gogau–Zungeru project, a N47 billion urban drainage and sewage system aimed at addressing flooding and improving sanitation in Kano metropolis.
He added that multi-billion-naira interventions had been approved for 16 dams in Kano State, including the Challawa Gorge and Tiga dams, as well as the wider Kano River irrigation project to strengthen agricultural productivity.
In the health sector, he noted ongoing upgrades of federal teaching hospitals across the northern region and the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres under the IMPACT programme.
Kwankwaso also referenced the Energising Commercialisation Nigeria (ECoN) initiative, launched in Kano by Oluremi Tinubu, which seeks to convert research outputs into commercially viable products and create employment opportunities in the North-West.
He further cited ongoing preparations for the operations of the North-West Development Commission, including inspections and planning for its permanent headquarters in Kano.
According to Kwankwaso, the projects are tangible and visible across the region, stressing that they are not mere promises but evidence of the administration’s commitment to development.
He maintained that the impact of the projects would translate into widespread political support for President Tinubu in the next election cycle.
“President Tinubu will sleep with his two eyes closed because, in my view, the 2027 re-election is assured,” Kwankwaso said, adding that Kano and the wider northern region are expected to deliver strong support for the president.
