There was confusion at an event centre in Abuja on Saturday after delegates attending the national convention of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) reportedly clashed with guests at an ongoing wedding reception.
The incident occurred at Chelsea Hotel in the Central Business District of Abuja, where the party had scheduled its convention.
According to Nova News, the situation became chaotic when ZLP delegates arrived at the venue only to discover that a wedding reception was already taking place at the facility.
An eyewitness, Mohammed Abbas, told DAILY POST that party delegates were surprised to find the hall occupied and were subsequently forced to remain outside the venue.
“The delegates arrived for the convention but met an ongoing wedding reception. This created confusion as they could not gain access to the venue,” Abbas said.
The unexpected development reportedly put the convention on hold, with delegates waiting for the conclusion of the wedding ceremony before any party activities could commence.
Although reports indicated that wedding guests and party delegates engaged in a confrontation over the use of the venue, details of any injuries or damage resulting from the clash were not immediately available.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the ZLP leadership nor the management of Chelsea Hotel had issued an official statement explaining the mix-up or outlining steps being taken to resolve the situation.
The Zenith Labour Party is headed by its National Chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu.
The convention was expected to bring together party officials and delegates from across the country for deliberations on key issues affecting the party. However, proceedings remained stalled amid the venue controversy.
