Kwankwaso Quits NNPP, Set to Join ADC

Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.

In a statement released on Sunday, Kwankwaso expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve as the party’s national leader and its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections. He admitted that leaving the party was a difficult decision but said it became necessary in light of the country’s evolving political dynamics.

According to him, the current situation requires a strategic realignment, prompting his move to identify with another platform that offers a stronger chance of delivering meaningful national change.

Kwankwaso also thanked the NNPP leadership, including the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as members of the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, and supporters across all levels of the party for their loyalty and support. He extended special appreciation to members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication to the party’s vision.

He assured that collaboration with allies would continue in pursuit of a better and more prosperous Nigeria.

Meanwhile, indications suggest that Kwankwaso is set to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to strengthen his political base.

A statement by Kwankwasiyya Movement spokesperson, Habibu Mohammad, confirmed that the former governor will formally join the ADC on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his residence in Kano.

He has also directed his supporters to follow him to the new political platform as part of the transition.
