ASUU Rejects UK University Campus Plan, Vows to Resist Implementation

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the Federal Government’s plan to establish a United Kingdom university campus in Nigeria, describing it as a form of colonialism that would erode the value and relevance of Nigerian universities. ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, made this statement at a public lecture at Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi, vowing that the union would resist the move.

Piwuna argued that the government should instead focus on improving the country’s existing universities, citing declining admission applications globally for the proposed Coventry University as a reason to prioritize local institutions. The ASUU president also issued a four-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement a newly approved salary structure for university lecturers, warning that failure to comply would attract a strong response from the union.
