Odigie-Oyegun Emerges Chair of ADC Manifesto Committee, Slams APC Governance

Former APC National Chairman and ex-Edo State governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, has been appointed chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Manifesto Committee.

Inaugurating the committee, ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, Senator David Mark, charged members to craft policies and a manifesto capable of tackling poverty, which he described as unprecedented under the APC-led government.

Mark criticised the APC administration’s handling of the economy, security and healthcare, urging the committee to propose people-focused policies that would make the ADC appealing to Nigerians. The party’s legal adviser administered the oath of office to committee members.

Speaking at the event, Odigie-Oyegun faulted the APC government, saying many Nigerians had lost faith in the ruling party and were closely watching the alternatives being offered by the ADC.

Odigie-Oyegun previously served as APC national chairman after emerging in 2014, following the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He later exited the party.

The ADC was formally adopted by an opposition coalition on July 2, 2025, as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections. The coalition said its mission was to rescue Nigeria from collapse and restore democracy, accusing the APC-led Federal Government of hijacking democratic institutions and pushing the country toward what it described as a “creeping civilian dictatorship.”

In September 2025, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially recognised the ADC leadership under Mark. The INEC confirmation, published on its website, also listed former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.

Other officers recognised by INEC include former Edo State governor Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser, Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer, and Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary.
