Former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has predicted internal cracks within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following its national convention.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST, Baba-Ahmed said the party would experience defections once its presidential ticket is decided.
According to him, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is likely to emerge as the party’s flagbearer, a development he believes will prompt some aspirants and their supporters to exit the party.
“ADC will bleed after its convention because Vice President Atiku will clinch the ticket, and when that happens, some people will walk away,” he said.
The remark comes amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, ahead of which opposition forces adopted the ADC in July 2025.
The party currently boasts several high-profile politicians, including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai and Babachir Lawal.
ADC’s leadership includes former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman, ex-Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, and former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi as National Publicity Secretary.
