Residents of Jabo village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State were thrown into panic on Thursday night, Christmas Day, following a loud explosion suspected to have been caused by an explosive device.
According to eyewitness accounts gathered by Hobnob News, the incident occurred suddenly when an unidentified object reportedly landed in the community, producing a loud blast that startled residents.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, as the object did not explode within a populated area.
A resident of the community, who confirmed the incident, said the unexpected sound caused widespread fear among villagers, many of whom initially mistook it for a direct attack.
“It happened suddenly at night. The explosion caused serious fear, but thankfully it did not land where people were gathered,” the source said.
Security agencies have since been alerted, and preliminary investigations are underway to determine the origin and nature of the explosion. As of press time, authorities had yet to officially confirm whether the object was an explosive device or how it entered the community.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and to cooperate fully with security operatives as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Tambuwal Local Government Area has remained relatively peaceful in recent times, making the development a source of concern among locals, who are now calling for increased surveillance and a stronger security presence in rural communities.
