Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered a locally fabricated pistol along with a Lexus 350 SUV following a swift operation at the Ozalla/Umueze axis in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the rescue was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad on October 19, 2025, around 11:30 p.m.
According to Ndukwe, the operatives acted on a distress call about the abduction of the victim in the Awkunanaw area of Enugu, immediately pursuing the suspects to their hideout.
“The team chased the kidnappers to the Ozalla/Umueze area, where they abandoned the victim, a Lexus 350 vehicle, and a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with three live rounds of ammunition,” the statement read.
He confirmed that the victim was rescued unharmed, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for their quick and professional response, reaffirming the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and eliminating criminal activities across the state.
“We will not relent in our fight against criminal elements. Enugu must remain safe for everyone,” the commissioner assured.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist in the ongoing manhunt.
Meanwhile, Hobnob News recalls that earlier in the week, the Enugu State Police demolished a building allegedly used by kidnappers as a detention hideout in Umueze Awkunanaw, Nkanu West, following the rescue of another victim.
The move, carried out in line with state laws, underscores the Command’s intensified crackdown on abduction syndicates and criminal networks operating within the state.
