The Edo State Local Government Service Commission has ordered all Heads of Local Government Administration across the state’s 18 councils to proceed on a compulsory 30-working-day leave.
Chairman of the commission, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, announced this directive on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the commission’s assessment tour of local government councils.
According to Adjoto, the affected officers are to hand over to the Directors of Administrative and General Services in their respective councils. The measure, he said, is designed to enable a comprehensive review of administrative operations and promote efficiency within the local government system.
“The commission has reviewed the existing administrative framework across all 18 local councils,” Adjoto stated. “This decision is necessary to allow for a thorough assessment and ensure improved governance at the grassroots level.”
He emphasized that the move aims to foster transparency, ensure fair staff deployment, and restore public confidence in local administration.
“During the compulsory leave, the Directors of Administrative and General Services will oversee daily operations in each local government,” he added, urging all affected officers to comply promptly with the directive.
Adjoto noted that the commission’s goal is to reposition the local government workforce for better service delivery. He also revealed that during the ongoing digitalisation exercise, 382 shadow files and 132 retired files were uncovered.
It will be recalled that Governor Monday Okpebholo recently inaugurated Hon. Kabiru Adjoto as Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission on August 16. Adjoto, a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, had pledged to reform local government administration and prioritize workers’ welfare for optimal service delivery.
