Kwankwaso Warns Defectors: “There’s a Price for Betrayal”

National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has warned politicians who defected from the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that they will soon face the consequences of their betrayal.

Speaking at his Miller Road residence in Kano while receiving supporters of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, Kwankwaso reaffirmed that the NNPP remains steadfast despite the challenges facing the country.

Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, praised the steadfastness of Sumaila’s supporters who refused to follow him to the APC.

“Kwankwasiyya is a movement for the people, not a money-making venture,” Kwankwaso said. “Those who were elected by the poor and later abandoned the movement after being bribed will soon realise their mistake. There’s always a price for betrayal.”

Earlier, the group’s leader, Sunusi Hukuma, pledged unwavering loyalty to Kwankwaso and vowed to work against Senator Sumaila’s political ambitions. Hukuma stated that they withdrew their support for the senator after he defected from the NNPP, emphasising that their commitment to the Kwankwasiyya movement remains firm.

Senator Sumaila, who initially left the APC before the 2023 elections to join the NNPP — under which he won the Kano South Senatorial seat — has since returned to the APC and declared support for President Bola Tinubu
