Police Arrest Nearly 6,000 Suspects, Recover Over 360 Firearms Nationwide

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against violent crime, illegal arms trafficking, and other criminal activities across the country.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a total of 5,936 suspects were arrested nationwide, with 360 firearms and 5,952 rounds of ammunition recovered during recent operations.

Breakdown of Arrests

Those apprehended include:

715 armed robbery suspects

306 kidnappers

533 homicide suspects

149 suspects for unlawful possession of firearms

371 suspects for sexual offences

590 cultists

3,272 individuals arrested for other criminal activities

Major Breakthroughs

At a press briefing held at the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) base in Guzape, Abuja, the Police highlighted several high-profile arrests.

One such case was the arrest of Jane Anodua in Rivers State, accused of child trafficking in Plateau State. According to police reports, two abducted 10-year-old girls were rescued, while two more trafficked children were later recovered in Imo State and reunited with their parents.

Another significant operation led to the arrest of Tanfa Binbol, a suspected gunrunner intercepted on July 13 in Taraba State. A search of his residence yielded three AK-47 rifles, five pistols, and a pump-action rifle.

Similarly, Jerauji Ibrahim, arrested on July 27 in Adamawa State, confessed to possessing two AK-47 rifles. Police operatives recovered the weapons along with magazines and 19 rounds of ammunition.

Additional raids across criminal hideouts resulted in the recovery of:

Four AK-47 rifles

One G-3 rifle

One submachine gun

One revolver cartridge rifle

One locally fabricated pistol

Commitment to Public Safety

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining public order.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its duty to safeguard Nigerians and ensure that citizens can go about their daily lives in peace and without fear,” he said.
