The Federal Government has announced plans to extend fresh cash transfers to 2.2 million households across the country before the end of August 2025.
Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, disclosed this during an interview with Channels Television on Monday.
According to him, the disbursement will be carried out through the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO), which is responsible for identifying and capturing vulnerable Nigerians from the lowest cadre in the national social register.
“In the next few days to come, before the end of August, we are going to reach out to 2.2 million households,” Sununu said.
The minister further revealed that the government had already disbursed ₦419 billion to about five million Nigerians under its rapid conditional cash transfer programme targeted at vulnerable groups.
He explained that the regional distribution of the funds so far shows that 71 percent went to the northern part of the country, while 21 percent was disbursed in the southern part.
Sununu said the initiative was part of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to cushion the impact of economic hardship on citizens and tackle multidimensional poverty across the country.
