Emir of Zuru, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd.), Dies at 81

 

According to Hobnob News, the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd.), popularly known as Gomo II, has died in London after a short illness. He was 81.

His family confirmed the passing of the royal leader on Sunday, describing him as a man who combined a distinguished military career with decades of dedicated service to his people.

Born on October 24, 1943, the late Emir enlisted in the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962, and received his officer training at the Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, United Kingdom. He was commissioned as an officer on July 25, 1963.

Throughout his military career, Sani Sami served with loyalty and commitment, rising through the ranks to hold several sensitive appointments. He notably served as Commander of the Brigade of Guards during the administration of General Murtala Mohammed and was later appointed Military Governor of Bauchi State in December 1983.

Following his retirement from active military service, Sani Sami returned to his hometown, where he was enthroned as the Emir of Zuru. As Gomo II, he was widely respected as a hardworking, disciplined, and humble traditional ruler who upheld the customs and cultural heritage of his people.

The Zuru Emirate Council has announced that funeral arrangements will be made public in due course.
