The Deputy Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Wannune (FPW) in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, Dr. Ngurumun D.M. Iorchir, has raised serious allegations of terrorism, money laundering, and organized crime within the institution, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene.
In a statement released on her official Facebook page on Saturday, Dr. Iorchir named the Rector, Dr. Tyover Ashinya Dajo, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Michael Msuaan, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, among those allegedly connected to the activities.
According to her, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, armed men invaded the polytechnic campus, vandalized property, and attempted to lynch her. She said she narrowly escaped the attack, alleging that the armed group later withdrew on the orders of the Rector.
“The terrorists invaded our campus, seriously intimidated people, vandalized government property, and threatened to lynch me. By Providence, I escaped and remained in hiding until the group’s leader within the polytechnic, the Rector, instructed them to withdraw and camp elsewhere in Wannune,” she stated.
Dr. Iorchir further alleged that a staff member, Mr. Jeremiah Terfa Cheren, was abducted and tortured by the invaders. She claimed that despite notifying Chief Msuaan of the incident, no action was taken to involve law enforcement.
She also accused senior officials of diverting public funds meant for FPW to finance the attackers. She mentioned Mr. Orkume Twar, a personal aide to the Rector, as one of those involved in supporting the group’s activities.
The Deputy Rector said she had already submitted a detailed report, with supporting evidence, to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) through the Benue State Police Command, as well as to the DSS, EFCC, and ICPC.
However, she alleged that investigations have been obstructed, accusing SGF Akume of shielding those responsible.
“Unfortunately, the SGF, Sen. George Akume, is interfering with the investigation, perverting justice to protect the terrorists and prevent their arrest. Even four days after my first report to the IGP, the Police have not arrested any suspects,” she said.
She warned that staff, students, and residents of Wannune remain unsafe, alleging that some of the armed group members had previously taken part in the Yelwata Guma massacre.
“Federal Polytechnic Wannune needs full Police protection with heavy presence on campus to guarantee safety. Staff, students, and the Wannune community cannot remain exposed to these threats,” she stressed.
Dr. Iorchir appealed directly to President Tinubu to deploy security operatives to safeguard the polytechnic and its host community, adding that evidence of the alleged terrorism and money laundering had been forwarded to relevant security and anti-graft agencies.
As of the time of filing this report, none of the individuals or institutions accused had issued a formal response.
