The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of plotting a calculated takeover of the party to bolster his 2027 presidential ambition.
Kachikwu alleged that Atiku, the 2023 flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is working through proxies to infiltrate and dominate the ADC’s structures ahead of the next general elections. According to him, the move is part of a broader political strategy to secure an alternative platform should internal PDP dynamics hinder Atiku’s return bid.
The ADC chieftain warned party members to be vigilant, stressing that the integrity and independence of the party must not be compromised by external political interests. He also called on the party’s national leadership to take immediate steps to prevent what he described as an “imminent hijack” of the ADC’s machinery.
As of press time, Atiku Abubakar has not responded to the allegations. However, political observers note that the 2027 race is already attracting early manoeuvres from key figures across party lines.
