Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended residents of the state for their orderly and peaceful participation in the Local Government Elections held on Saturday across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday evening, the governor expressed heartfelt appreciation to Lagosians for turning out in large numbers and conducting themselves with decorum during the exercise.
“Your peaceful conduct, sense of responsibility, and turnout across polling units have once again demonstrated the true spirit of Lagos — a state built on participation, progress, and people-centred governance,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also lauded various segments of society — including youths, elders, market women, artisans, and professionals — for playing vital roles in ensuring a seamless democratic process.
He emphasized that such participation reinforces the principles of democracy and underlines the importance of inclusive leadership driven by the will of the people.
“You have shown that democracy thrives when the people engage. Your actions today are a step forward in shaping the future of local governance in Lagos,” he said.
The governor extended his gratitude to security agencies, electoral officials, and members of the media for their professionalism and dedication to ensuring the election was both credible and secure.
“Your commitment and collaboration were key to the success of today’s election. Thank you for your service to our democracy,” he added.
As Lagosians await the official results from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Governor Sanwo-Olu urged all candidates and political actors to maintain decorum, remain law-abiding, and uphold the peaceful atmosphere observed during the voting process.
“Let us continue to strengthen grassroots democracy by showing respect for the rule of law and each other. The peaceful conduct of these elections is a bold statement about our collective commitment to building a better Lagos,” the governor stated.
He concluded with a call for unity and sustained civic engagement, reiterating his administration’s vision of a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Lagos.
