Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN, currently executing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, have intercepted a suspected kidnapper and recovered a large cache of weapons and over ₦13 million in cash during a routine snap checkpoint operation along the Wamba–Jos Road in Agameti, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a statement released by the Media Information Officer of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the operation took place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Troops flagged down a Volkswagen vehicle with registration number JJN 336 YZ, which had three occupants. However, two of the suspects abruptly fled the vehicle upon nearing the checkpoint, raising suspicions.

A subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed bullet holes and visible blood stains. The lone suspect, who remained in the car, reportedly attempted to bribe the troops with cash, an offer that was firmly rejected by the soldiers.
During a detailed search of the vehicle, troops recovered the following items:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- Two AK-47 magazines
- 30 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
- Three mobile phones
- One knife
- One football
- Assorted charms
- One torchlight
- Cash totaling ₦13,742,000
Preliminary interrogation of the suspect revealed his involvement in numerous kidnapping operations along the Jos–Makurdi highway. He initially agreed to lead the troops to his gang’s hideout. However, during the follow-up operation, the suspect attempted to disarm a soldier and escape. He was immediately neutralized in the ensuing scuffle.
Major Zhakom confirmed that follow-up operations are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing accomplices and dismantle the broader criminal network responsible for the wave of kidnappings in the region.

Operation SAFE HAVEN reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and restoring security in affected communities. Authorities have also urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency.
Hobnob News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as events unfold.
