The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the official release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Azeez Sani, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, revealed that 179,201 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects. The exam was conducted from May 12 to May 23, 2025, and concluded without any reported issues.
While the statement did not include a breakdown of student performance, it confirmed that the results were released following the successful conclusion of the 2025 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at NECO’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
During the meeting, the chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr Folake Olatunji David, who also serves as Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, expressed satisfaction with the conduct and processes leading up to the release of the results. She commended NECO for its efficiency and adherence to examination standards.
The meeting was attended by select secondary school principals from across Nigeria, alongside members of NECO’s management team. It provided a platform to review the examination process and finalise decisions on subsequent steps, including the resit arrangements.
Sani added that the committee has approved both the date and timetable for the 2025 BECE resit examination. According to NECO, the resit is scheduled to take place on July 23 and 24, 2025, and will cover two core subjects—Mathematics and English Studies.
The release of the 2025 BECE results marks a key milestone in Nigeria’s basic education calendar and paves the way for students seeking to proceed to senior secondary education.
