BREAKING: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, as Eid-el-Adha (Sallah Day) following the sighting of the crescent moon signaling the start of Dhul Hijjah, the final month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
The announcement was made on Tuesday via Haramain Sharifain’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, confirming that Dhul Hijjah 1446 will begin on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The key Islamic dates confirmed are:
First day of Dhul Hijjah – Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Day of Arafah – Thursday, June 5, 2025
Eid-el-Adha (Sallah) – Friday, June 6, 2025
The Day of Arafah, observed on June 5, is one of the most spiritually significant days in Islam, where pilgrims performing Hajj gather at Mount Arafat for prayer and reflection. The following day, Eid-el-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the unwavering obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s command.
As is tradition, Haramain Sharifain also shared the iconic pilgrimage chant recited by Muslims entering a state of ihram:
“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.”
(“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You, and You have no partner.”)
This year’s declaration provides clarity for Muslims around the globe, enabling them to align their Hajj, prayers, and Eid-el-Adha festivities. The celebration will include sacrificial offerings, communal prayers, and charitable acts in honor of Prophet Ibrahim’s legacy.
