The Nigerian government has commenced the payment of the long-awaited N35,000 wage award arrears to federal government employees. This development was confirmed on Monday in an official statement by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), as reported by Hobnob News Nigeria.
According to the statement, the payment process is already underway, with several federal workers confirming receipt of the funds on Monday. The wage award, which is to be disbursed in five monthly installments of N35,000, is part of the government’s commitment to support public servants amid ongoing economic challenges.
Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, issued the statement on behalf of the agency. He clarified that the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, never stated that the N35,000 wage award was excluded from the proposed N54.99 trillion 2025 national budget.
“The office said the Accountant General of the Federation didn’t brief the press on the wage award issue and assured that outstanding arrears would be paid as promised by the government,” the statement reads.
This move comes as a relief to many federal workers who have awaited clarity and fulfillment of the government’s promise. The OAGF emphasized its commitment to transparency and continued disbursement of the arrears as scheduled.
For many employees, the commencement of payments marks a significant step toward economic relief, as the government attempts to fulfill its pledge of improved welfare for its workforce.
