The Ogun State House of Assembly has issued a directive to all local government chairmen across the state to submit comprehensive documentation on all ongoing and completed projects, including detailed cost implications.
According to DAILY POST, the Assembly, through its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, led by Honourable Jemili Akingbade, made the request on Wednesday during an oversight visit to Abeokuta South Local Government Council.
As part of the directive, the Assembly requested that chairmen provide memos for approvals, bills of quantity, payment vouchers, and records of projects approved at Finance and General Purpose Committee (FG&PC) meetings. The move, according to Akingbade, is aimed at evaluating performance and ensuring adherence to due process in project execution at the grassroots level.
“We are here to assess the level of performance and compliance with due process in implementing projects, in line with the laws guiding the operations of local government councils,” Akingbade said. He emphasized the importance of transparency and strict adherence to procedures as stipulated by law.
The oversight visit, he noted, is also part of efforts to monitor the implementation of the 2024 budget and ensure that it aligns with the developmental priorities of the current state administration.
Other members of the Committee present during the visit included Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju, Samsideen Lawal, Folawewo Salami, Yusuf Sherrif, and Wasiu Ayodele. The lawmakers also toured several projects executed by the council as part of their inspection.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Balogun Afeez, expressed gratitude to the Committee for the visit. He described it as a commendable step toward promoting accountability and advancing grassroots development.
The Assembly’s move signals a renewed commitment to enforcing accountability and transparency in the management of public funds at the local government level.
